My husband and I are expecting our 3rd and final child in just a few weeks. I am filled with every emotion possible. I am excited, scared, happy, terrified, elated, and paranoid over every twinge I get. Ask my midwife. I texted her today concerned my baby’s hiccups were too much. You’d think by my third, I would have learned to stay away from Dr. Google, but alas I don’t.

Naming our little girl, (did I mention it was a girl?) was easy for us. We always choose special names for our children that honor people in our lives whether past or present. For this one, we landed on…

Lucy Sheila Christine

Ughhh I am already crying. These are very special names for us that will remind us of 3 amazing people every time we see Lucy’s name.

Lucy is actually short for Lucille after my grandma. I loved my grandma very much. She was a SPITFIRE. Oh my gosh if you knew her, you know what this implies. She was a ball full of sass and she had no problem sharing words with you if she needed to. But she loved me dearly and I spent most of my early childhood at her house across the street from mine. One of the greatest gift my parents ever gave me was time with my grandparents. So naturally given the chance to name our little girl after my grandma was an easy choice. I just hope that maybe Lucy isn’t as sassy as my grandma ;)

Sheila is one of our middle names. My mom’s best friend was Mrs. Sheila. I knew her from the time I was born until she passed away from Cancer almost a couple of years ago. She’s one of the most special women I’ve ever known and one of the strongest women I’ve ever known. I watched her go through a lot in life and it’s like nothing could break her. She saw everything through a rose colored glass. She never gave up on anything or anyone and that woman worked so hard. She understood love, forgiveness and letting God be in control. My mom loved her dearly and I know it’s still hard for her that she’s gone. I am glad that we can think of Mrs. Sheila when we look at Lucy.

Last but not least is Christine. My husband loves his grandma so stinking much. I cannot even tell you how many times my husband has started a sentence with “My grandma…”. If I cook something he doesn’t quite like he’ll tell me how his grandma did it. Most of his childhood seems to revolve around stories where she is the center. He adores that woman and for good reason. She’s going strong well into her 90’s and we still get to enjoy her saucy personality. I’ve heard her curse in Danish on more than one occasion and she is quicker with comebacks than I could even try to be. My husband doesn’t get to see her very often since we live so far away from her, but he certainly talks enough about her to make it seem like she’s with us in person. Lucy has some big shoes to fill carrying around her name!

In a few weeks Lucy will be here and everything is going to get crazy. For now, I’ll rest, nest and tie up some loose ends for my business. Then I’ll just cuddle a very beautiful little girl.

Stayed tuned, for a blog later this week with my amazing baby shower my beautiful friends had for me!
